Immune Health: Science, Stories and Strategies for Resilience
This session explores how lifestyle factors can shape immune function and influence the course of immune-related conditions. We begin with a clear and practical overview of the immune system and evidence-based strategies to support immune resilience through lifestyle medicine. Personal stories of transformation bring the science to life—illustrating how dietary and lifestyle changes have played a role in achieving remission in rheumatoid arthritis and managing multiple sclerosis. The session also presents data from a multidisciplinary plant-based intervention in people with arthritis, sharing insights into evaluation, optimisation, and successful clinical implementation. Together, these talks offer a powerful reminder of the immune system’s responsiveness to the way we live.
Nutrition and lifestyle approaches for cancer survivorship
This session explores the growing role of lifestyle medicine in cancer care, offering evidence-based guidance on how nutrition, physical activity, and other lifestyle factors can improve treatment responses, remission duration and quality of life. Drawing on the latest research, speakers will discuss practical ways to empower patients through and beyond a cancer diagnosis. Introduced by our founder and haematologist Dr Shireen Kassam, the session features personal reflections from someone living with cancer and practical insights from an oncology doctor who has successfully implemented a lifestyle medicine programme into her NHS practice.
Epidemiology special!
In a world of headlines and health claims, the ability to critically assess evidence is essential. This session offers a clear and practical guide to interpreting epidemiological studies, with a focus on the types of data commonly used in nutrition and lifestyle medicine. Attendees will gain insights into key statistical concepts, common pitfalls in study design and interpretation, and how to distinguish meaningful findings from misleading ones. With practical tips and real-world examples, this session will leave you better equipped to evaluate evidence and apply it confidently in clinical practice.
Brain & Beyond: Parkinson’s, Social Isolation, and Modern Health Threats
This session explores the intersection of brain health, behaviour, and society—from individual conditions to wider public health challenges. We begin with the growing crisis of loneliness, examining its profound effects on physical and mental wellbeing across the life course, and highlighting community-based solutions to foster connection and reduce stigma. The focus then shifts to the rapid rise of vaping among young people – an evolving public health issue – exploring the latest data and evaluating whether proposed UK policy responses are fit for purpose. Finally, we hear how lifestyle medicine is opening new doors in the prevention and management of Parkinson’s disease, offering hope and agency through evidence-based lifestyle interventions.
Cognitive Resilience
In this compelling keynote, Drs Dean and Ayesha Sherzai will present cutting-edge insights into how lifestyle medicine can protect and enhance brain health. Drawing on the latest research, they will explore how diet, movement, sleep, stress management, cognitive activity, and social connection contribute to long-term cognitive resilience and the prevention of neurodegenerative disease. Attendees will come away with practical strategies for promoting brain health at both individual and community levels – empowering healthcare professionals and the public alike to take action for a sharper, healthier future.
